- Machine Learning (ML): A subfield of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that focuses on building systems capable of learning from data to improve their performance on a specific task without being explicitly programmed for every scenario. In learning engineering ML models are used to generate learning content, predict outcomes, or identify patterns, such as predicting learner success or grouping learners.
- Metadata Tagging: The practice of assigning descriptive metadata to learning resources, enabling easy organization, retrieval, consistent interpretation by AI, and personalization of content.
- Metacognition: The awareness and understanding of one’s thinking, including one’s own learning processes, critical for problem-solving and self-regulated learning.
- Mind Mapping: A visual representation technique used to organize and structure information, brainstorm, and map knowledge relationships.
- Motivating Operations: Deliberate actions to adjust features of a learning environment or a learning experience in ways that lead to productive learning behaviors. These include learner-initiated and externally initiated actions.
